A place of miracles

From humble beginnings

Our Story

This is a place of miracles. Our main building (at the Granite Institute) is the site of the Church’s very first Seminary building, built back in 1912. Prophets and apostles have stood on this ground. Graduates from Granite seminary include President James E. Faust, Elder Neal A. Maxwell, former Tabernacle Choir conductor Jerold Ottley, and -- in the very first graduating class -- President Henry B. Eyring's mother, Mildred Bennion (see the video at the bottom of the page.) The original building was added to four times (in 1924, 1929, 1950 and 1964.) Then, in 1993, the original building was replaced with the current structure. When Granite High School closed its doors in 2009, the Granite Seminary building was given a new commission: to bless the lives of students with adapted needs.

Since the summer of 2020, adapted needs programs across the Valley have grown at an astonishing rate. Now, there are dozens of adapted institute opportunities across the greater Salt Lake Area, with the Granite Institute building serving as the hub.

The seminary and institute programs of the Church started here,  growing in a miraculous manner to bless the entire world. Our program also has the potential for explosive growth. We have a significant role to play in the urgent effort to gather an entire generation of Adaptive Needs Institute students to Jesus Christ.

Our Vision

Our purpose is to help youth and young adults deepen their conversion to Jesus Christ and His restored gospel, qualify for the blessings of the temple, and prepare themselves, their families, and others for eternal life with their Father in Heaven.

Our shared vision for our program is simple: “Inviting each other to come unto Christ.” The people in the program – our teachers, our staff, our students, and our parents – are the greatest assets we have. Our classes are places where everyone in the room finds strength in the association with each other. Even though all of us have challenges, we are a community of sons and daughters of God, equal in His eyes, “for the preacher was no better than the hearer, neither was the teacher any better than the learner; and thus they were all equal” (Alma 1:26). We are here to lift, strengthen, and help each other come unto the Savior, Jesus Christ, and we actively invite everyone to join in the cause.
