Mandt Safety Training

WHAT IS MANDT TRAINING?
The objective of Seminaries and Institutes of Religion states, “Our purpose is to help youth and young adults deepen their conversion to Jesus Christ and His restored gospel, qualify for the blessings of the temple, and prepare themselves, their families, and others for eternal life with their Father in Heaven.”

We seek for these outcomes in the lives of all youth and young adults including those with disabilities. The principles of inclusion, training, expectations, and utilizing area resources apply to all students.

In order to help teachers become more effective in providing these services to students with adapted needs, S&I has adopted a safety program to help teachers respond more effectively and appropriately to the needs of our students. Mandt is a specific training program that emphasizes respect for the individual, healthy relationships, and verbal deescalation and defusing skills. To help them be more effective in the classroom, S&I Teachers who teach adaptive needs classes are expected to complete and maintain Mandt certification. This program provides education and certification which both protects and supports students and teachers.

WHO SHOULD RECEIVE MANDT TRAINING?
Policy dictates that there are some teachers and support staff that are required to receive the training and some that are suggested to receive the training.  Required: Regional AN Coordinators, Cluster and Blended Teachers (this includes full time, part time and called teachers assigned to a special needs setting). Suggested (decided by the Area Director): Administrative Assistants, Teacher Aides, Program Representatives, and Missionaries in a Special Needs Setting.

WHAT WILL THE TRAINING CONSIST OF?
This year, the training consists of online instruction and in person demonstration. The online instruction is  focused on relationship building skills that help improve our understanding of and communication with students. These skills help us to manage conflict in a healthy and safe environment. At the end of each section of training a short review of understanding is administered to ensure the participant is receiving and understanding the needed information. At the in person portion, participants learn Technical skills which can help them appropriately assist and support students when a situation becomes escalated.

IS THERE A COST INVOLVED?
The cost of this training experience is covered by Seminaries and Institutes. The participant will just be asked to come and participate.
